In English

At this stage, the bride's family asks the go-between for a 'ndiro,' a wooden plate. If the go-between has brought one, he presents it here. After the plate is placed down, a custom called 'sunungura homwe' (loosening the pockets) or 'vhuramuromo' (opening the mouth) is performed, in which a small fee is paid so that proceedings can continue smoothly. At this point, small fines may also be raised against the groom for any earlier missteps, such as missing an agreed date, though all of this is done with humour and laughter to put the go-between at ease.
