In English

Kutizira, also called kutizisa, is a marriage route that is still practised in contemporary Shona society. It commonly occurs when a woman becomes pregnant before roora has been paid to her family. Under traditional custom, an unmarried pregnant woman was not allowed to remain at her father's home, and she would be told to go and live with the father of her child. Because of this, in present-day society, a pregnant unmarried woman is compelled to go to the man believed responsible, or to find another man willing to take on that responsibility, if her family will not accept her while unmarried and pregnant.
