In English

Kutema ugariri is a marriage route used by a man who cannot pay roora in the usual way through cattle. It was often used by poorer families or orphaned men. The man is required to work for his in-laws, offering labour such as farming or other household tasks, until his work is accepted as the bride payment. Once his agreed period of service is complete, he is then permitted to take his wife. This route gave disadvantaged men a way into marriage.
