In English

Inheritance is distributed at the kurova guva ceremony, with sons receiving the bulk and the eldest taking the father's place.

Nhaka covers two distinct things: positional inheritance (taking the deceased's place and being considered for his widow) and the distribution of his belongings. For positional inheritance, it was the deceased's younger brothers, not his older brothers, who had the right of succession, since they were the ones regarded as father to his children. A widow could decline the arrangement by presenting a plate or staff, choosing instead to remain unmarried and provide for herself. Property such as fields, livestock, tools, and houses was distributed by the heir according to the deceased's wishes, with the father's cattle typically kept for his sons to use for their own bride price payments. Women do not inherit property directly but can be cared for by their children.
