In English

A pronoun stands in for a noun in speech, e.g. 'iye' ('he/she') or 'icho' ('it'). Pronouns are formed according to the noun class of the noun they stand in for, and every one begins with the vowel /i-/, called the stabiliser. Each noun class has its own distinct pronoun.
