Chiratidzi chinoratidza kuti chinhu chiri pedyo kana kure nomutauri. Kune mhando mbiri: zviratidzi zvepedyo ('uyu', 'ava') nezviratidzi zvekure ('uyo', 'avo'). Zviratidzi zvepedyo zvinoumbwa nechitsigiri /i-/ + chiratidzamupanda, uye zvekure zvinowedzera nzvowera /-o/ pakupedzisira.

Demonstratives show whether something is near to or far from the speaker. There are two kinds: near demonstratives ('uyu', 'this'; 'ava', 'these') and far demonstratives ('uyo', 'that'; 'avo', 'those'). Near demonstratives are formed from the stabiliser /i-/ plus a class-specific affix; far demonstratives add the final vowel /-o/.
