Murambwi is itself a lion's name: Duramazwi explains it as a Shumba praise name that speaks of how the lion is disliked by the animals it hunts. The detembo opens on it, then calls the clan the children of Chivi, those who creep (vakanyairi) and eat game (vadyi vemhuka). It greets them among the Mhari at Chitonje, at Nyaningwe and Chamahota, and names VaMhungudza, Nyamukanga and Makovere.

One place gets its own explanation. The poem greets the clan as those who rest at Baradzanawa, and in the next line gives the name's sense: the place where people parted when the father died (kwakaparadzanwa baba afa). It also says the clan are startled at the sight of a person, and it keeps returning to Mhungubwe, closing on that name and on Chibwa at Nyaningwe.

Those who carry a totem do not eat its animal. Some families keep away from one part of it only, such as the heart, and the old belief holds that a person who breaks the rule loses their teeth.

The praise names are for every day, not only for ceremonies: a person is greeted by them, thanked with them, and a wife praises her husband with his.
