Mupamombe is a praise name of the Mutonga clan, the people of the Ngezi and Mupawose chieftaincies in Mhondoro-Ngezi and Chegutu. The National Archives call the Mupawose family Batonga, with Mupamombe as their praise name, and name no animal; members of the clan give cattle, the lion and the tiger fish, and no source settles it. Its people are praised as Mutonga, Mukoka, Ngezi, Mupamombe and Mupawose.
The Mutonga poem is short. It greets the clan at Chivare, Dumbura, Chingondo and Chizarira, and calls its people the owners of the forests. It remembers a feat with cattle, opening a beast with a fingernail where the knife had failed, and praises the clan as those who do not give way unless they are beaten.

Men are greeted as Mutonga and Ngezi, and women as Mupamombe. The poem also calls the clan Mukoka and Mupawose.

Traditionally, people of the same mutupo and chidawo do not marry: they are counted as one family. Between different Mupamombe clans some families allow it, often after a ceremony that cuts the kinship (kucheka ukama).
