MutupoNhewa · leopard
Nhewa is the leopard: its poem calls it ingwe ina mavara, the spotted leopard, and praises it as the killer that kills in the open, with no bush to hide it. It is kept by the Nhewa Simboti clan, praised as Simboti, Chiruka, Nyakuzvibatira, Chikatsa and Nyamuteyi, the child of Nyamaruodzo.
The Simboti poem greets the clan at Kutsoka, Mhembere, Mundimu, Chai, Ukuhu, Tezi, Tawangena and Sena, and remembers Nyamaruodzo, who went into a cave with his dogs. Its picture of the leopard, the killer that strikes in the open where there is not even a bush, is the one the Shumba Gurundoro and Mhazi poems use of the lion, and the Gurundoro clan keeps the leopard alongside the lion.
